I am in my 50s with 20 plus years of school district experience as a superintendent of schools. I have a Ph.D., write and speak very well and have been responsible for finance, recruiting, negotiations and the like during my tenure in education. Is HR a good parking place of should I stick to what I do best, getting beat up by boards of education and parents?

I don't have the answer to your question, but I am transitioning out of education myself and looking into HR. I was a school counselor for 7 years, and got burned out on trying to help people while constantly getting beat up for what I wasn't doing due to time and budget constraints that were totally out of my control. It stressed me out so much that I took a huge pay cut to work in an office doing administrative work until I figure out what to do next. I am also interested in how to career change out of education into ANYTHING else.

If HR is something you have an interest in, I would say go for it. Life it too short. Do what you have a passion for. If you feel that Education has mentally drained you and it doesn't look like there's an end in site, why not try something new. It might revitalize you and you might actually enjoy your job. Good luck and keep us posted!

I think you should atleast try out what an hr job is all about may be you will find it interesting and i think we should try out different fields as working in only one field makes our life monotoneous and boring.
