I have been offered an HR Manager position at a furniture manufactoring company (about 50 employees). I would be doing everything HR with no other HR staff. They are calling the position entry-level, which is great, because I have never held an HR tiltle. I am in three classes away from my masters in HRM and I have mostly done recruiting and job placement in non-profit orgs (5 years).

I am meeting with my new employer today to discuss what my salary will be. I have no idea what my minimum should be. I currently make 40,000. I looked at salary.com and HR Manager is up in the $60,000 range. I don't expect to get $60,000 at all.

Based on the info I've given, any suggestions??

I think when you will get the HR degree your salary will automatically be raised and you should look for a new job then only. And you have good amount of work experience also which will help you earn more.

If you are obtaining your masters degree then I would not accept anything less than $60,000. I live in a small town and my friend has a bachelors degree and she makes 68,000 a year. She also did not have much experince when she got the job.

The dreaded salary question...you never want to sell yourself short, but you don't want to salary yourself out of a job either. I think pay differs from company to company and you have to decide what your lowest level salary income can be and then base it against the job you are applying for and adjust from there. It's always safe to state a range $40,000-$50,000 to show them that you are flexible.

Yeah, I'd give a between range for starters. And ask if it would be increased when I finished getting my degree. How many have you viewed and got an estimate from so far?
